America made a promise to immigrants who were brought here as children. These are the children of immigrants attempting to escape from poverty, violence, or persecution. They didn’t make a choice to come here, and their parents thought the United States offered better opportunities for them. These children grew up here and know no other country than this one. Now President Trump and Congressional Republicans want to send them back to a country they’ve never been to. It is up to Congress to make sure these immigrants are given permanent protection and their chance at the American Dream.

Congressman Connolly has been a vocal advocate for Dreamers. He supported the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program that gave these young people assurances they could come out of the shadows and no longer needed to fear deportation. He opposed the Trump administration’s attempt to end DACA and has joined in multiple bipartisan efforts to enshrine it into permanent law. Programs such as DACA have been vital for the future of these children, but we need to take the next step to make sure they have had the opportunity to work, attend school, and become American citizens. In Virginia there are more than 12,000 DREAMers and Gerry is committed to protecting them and their families from any separation or deportation. President Trump demonizes immigrants. Congressman Connolly knows them personally, and knows they are hardworking, talented people who should be given a chance to fulfill their American Dream. These immigrant children deserve their rightful place in the only country they know.
